I just need to say as a mother of a Magic'06 member after reading this thread... I know some of you may think that the grass is greener on the other side...just remember sometimes it just LOOKS that way. Each of you LEARNED SOMETHING from Magic...whether good or bad. Mostly, you learned how to work together to overcome. Sure, it would have felt great to be number one but every corps CAN NOT be number one...Magic was there once too.... If everyone uses Magic as a stepping stone to get to another Corps, how will Magic every get anywhere? You have to take what you learn and give it back. If you take what you learn and bring it on to another corps...Magic has to start all over...If there are problems, become part of the solution. One thing you will learn as an adult, is that you can not run from things just because they don't turn out the way you would have liked them to turn out. You will learn that anything worth having is worth working for... Just as many of you that have had what you feel are bad experiences, there are as many that have had good experiences. Please don't get on here and try to rain on someone else's parade! If you are discouraging members from joining the Magic, are you hurting yourself? No. You are hurting the future of Magic and DCI. You are hurting the ones that are not good enough to maybe make the cut of the Cavaliers or Phantom because they are in top right now. (maybe not next year.) But now are afraid to try Magic because of the "horror" stories. Maybe it's not the experience but the person it is happening to...look inside and see if you made the best out of a bad situation or just dwelled on it...You were all on tour together....
Magic took my son and gave him the chance of a lifetime...he was not lucky enough to go to a large high school with a big marching band program... he knew very little about marching. Magic knew this but they saw the drive and determination. No, he wasn't on the number one Division I corps and he wasn't in last place either...BUT he MARCHED a Division I corps...never missed a practice...never missed a show....
As for the travel end, I work in the travel industry....we HATE booking groups.(Even small ones.) It is always difficult to move groups even from one city to the next...try several times a week! No one here would want that job...and if any of you tried it...you wouldn't either! I think the staff did an excellent job with what resources they had....THANKS MAGIC!!!
