Well, what can I say. Our kids had a great season, and we truly believe that. The season alone isn't based soley on where we finished, that wouldn't be fair. We know that they did the best that they could, and that is all that we ask. What makes the season successful is alot of things......did the kids have a good time and also get a learning experience ? Yes ! Did they eat well all summer ? Yes ! Was the summer safe, accident free and did we get to where we needed to be without incident ? Yes ! All of these factors, plus many more all weigh into whether or not the season was a success.
Personally, I would like to thank all of the parents that came out during move-ins, on the road, and here in Madison to help out. Without you, we would not have been able to pull off 4 meals a day for 10 weeks, operate the souvie wagon, get from point a to point b, and alot of other things that we had you do.
Also, I would like to thank Bruce. Most of you have NO IDEA what Bruce does for this organization. The time involved on his part, the financial support and just his dedication are amazing. I can honestly say there is no other person I would want mentoring me in how to get through running a drum corps with 130 kids, 25 staff and numerous volunteers than Bruce. We are very lucky to have Bruce on our team, and I look forward to many years of working together with him.
To our staff.......we may have had our disagreements at times over schedules, rehearsal sites and alot of other issues, but without you, we could not have gotten this group of kids to the level YOU got them too.....thank you thank you thank you.
And lastly, to ALL of the kids that participated this summer. Thank you for understanding when we couldn't stay at shows because we had a 10 hour bus ride ahead of us, when we were
late for shows and you still went out there and did Magic proud, for not getting into to much trouble over the summer, and lastly, for providing me with another summer I will remember forever. It's difficult to get to each and every one of you, and I am going to try to do that today, but I want you all to know that I give each of you the respect you deserve, you all did a great job, and you should be proud of your accomplishments this summer.
With all that being said, plans are already in the works for this fall, winter and next summer. We will once again have our Orlando Magic Basketball pep band, and we are looking to expand to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tampa Bay Lightning also. Will we have a winter drum line and winter guard ? Who knows, but anything is possible at this point. No matter how you look at it, there will always be something going on with The Magic, so keep an eye on the website for upcoming events.
Alot of you will see changes in your son or daughter when they get home. We hope that the changes you see will make you happy. We try to mold everyone into young adults learning some of lifes lessons along the way.
I hope to see many familiar faces at our first camp either in November or December. Please feel free to stay in touch with me in the off season and as I said before, keep an eye on the website for important information regarding the 2007 season, auditions, and off season projects.
Again, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU TO EVERYONE involved in making the 2006 version of THE MAGIC a complete success.
