I replied on the "steak dinner" thread, but guess it went unread or ignored.
Nobody in the Madison Barbeque thread has an email address, so I can't contact you privately.
If one of the people trying to coordinate the steak dinner or leaving messages for Curt would like to call me, my cell is 407-619-2704; I am still on vacation in Pittsburgh.

I have pretty much tried not to reply to anything negative on this forum-because I was one of the volunteers that "quit" during everydays. So no negative comments here but two questions....
1. I talked to my son a couple days ago and he said the latest rumor was that the banquet was cancelled. He said he didn't want to start any trouble. I told him that possible the BBQ or steak dinner was replacing it. Anybody know which is correct?
2. He also thought that Curt left. I asked if maybe he just took a break and went home for a while and he thought that he might have "quit" (again). Anybody know?
My son did say that everyone was doing great and on a new high with the scores increasing. They are all tired but giving it the extra push to the finals week. They are very proud of their accomplishments. I can really tell because he didn't call the first 3 weeks at all and now he calls every night just to make sure I know how much the score went up!

I would like for someone to please contact me if Curt is no longer with Magic. (break or otherwise) I have spoken to him and planned to serve the Corps a complete meal on August 11th. If there is anyone that I can speak to and BE SURE this is all still a go...please contact me ASAP! I DO NOT want to bring food for 150 people all the way from Louisiana for nothing. I can be contacted at michele@malcolmtravel.com or 225-315-9263. THANKS

Michele,
Curt is no longer with Magic.
The corps cell phone assigned to him was given to someone else who is active. You may wish to call them. (I don't know the number off hand, but Janice has it posted on the site.
I would imagine the kids would love the Louisiana cookin'...but you may wish to call the number to confirm, as I don't know how much info was passed along by Curt.

So I guess the phone call I just got from my daughter saying that since there were still people who had not paid their full fees, there was no more money for the busses and tonight would be their last show is true!! HOW THE HELL CAN THEY LEAVE KIDS ABANDONED IN PA!!!!!! Luckily, I have friends going to the Allentown show tonight that can bring her home, hopefully. I was warned about sending my kid out with the Magic, now I know why. If Curt is gone (I called and left a message on the cell number this morning, but now who knows who will get it) I expect someone from the Magic organization (Janice) to call me ASAP and tell me what is going on. 757-749-4588. I'm in Podunck South Dakota, so the call may not go through. Leave a message.

To all those curious as to why I am not there.......I had to leave the corps Monday night in Pittsburgh due to a family emergency. That is the only reason. I did not quit "AGAIN" as someone has already posted. The "banquet" was not cancelled, it was never scheduled. As of Monday night, we still had no housing sight for Madison. Because of this, trying to book a function hall, a caterer and a dj was next to impossible because we had no idea where we were going to be. Because we were not having a banquet on the road this summer as we normally do, Bruce decided to do the barbeque on Thursday night after the kids perform. Any and all information was given to Bruce and Tommy Williams by me before I left, so they are well aware of what is going on, what is being planned, and what to expect the final week of tour.
MICHELLE - Pam and her helpers are still looking forward to having you bring the meal as planned. They are really looking forward to it.
As you all know, I have been with the corps since everydays in May. I had every intention of finishing out the summer and continuing my employment with the corps. We have some very exciting plans in the works for this winter, and plans are in the works for next summer also. However, family comes first. Leaving was a last resort option for me, and unfortunately, it had to happen and there was nothing I could do about it. I deeply regret my having to leave, but there was no other option. I am trying my hardest to make it back to the corps, but that may prove to be extremely difficult. I am doing my best however, and am in contact with members and staff on a daily basis. If you have questions, and have my personal cell number, you can call me at any time and I will do my best to answer your questions or relay them to the corps on the road.

All, Bruce has Curt's phone (I just spoke with Bruce). If you have questions, I suggest you call him now. I strongly suggest that any parent of a member who still owes dues, call Bruce immediately. He can sure use whatever help you can give him, right now. The corps only has one more week - as parents, please let's give him our full 110% support.

Yes Scott. I just spoke to Bruce as well. He has pulled out all stops. He has personally been dipping in to his pocket and now there is nothing else there. Our kids that have paid all of their dues SHOULD NOT be penalized for those who have not. Parents, you know who you are if you owe dues...please at least make an attempt to pay. Anthing is better that NOTHING at this point! These kids have come too far to quit now! I would hate to think that my child contributed to the WHOLE corps not going to the championships! If anyone else has a little pot of gold lying around, donations will gladly be accepted.... THANKS to everyone!

All,
As so pointedly stated by Ryan Bishop a couple of weeks ago, this very PUBLIC dialog really doesn't help motivate the corps members (nor does it help one bit to get past the immediate issues). I'd recommend biting our tongues and focus on what we can do to HELP the Magic get to this season's holy grail (ie. semi-finals). Right???

This thread is very disturbing. Especially since my husband and I plan to be in Madison on the 8th. I hope we don't have to cancel/change our plans. That would really suck. We've been looking forward to this week all summer.
First of all I don't understand how the corp could have allowed people to participate that did not pay in full. It was very clear to me that the full amount was to be paid by move-in. Being new to drum corps I never would have thought that a parent would send their kid off with the Magic without fulfilling their monitary obligations and that The Magic would allow it. I don't know how you people feel but I would be embarrassed if the corp couldn't continue to Madison knowing that I was directly responsible. How could you face your child after that. People please do the right thing and pay what you owe.
Another thing, I can see why it would be hard to find housing in Madison, considering that most school bands are having band camps and the football teams need the fields for practice. Maybe you can find a Middle School or perhaps share a site with someone. I know that the Crossman just found a housing site the other day so Magic isn't the only one having housing problems. You would think that DCI would be able to find you a site. I may be nieve about this whole thing but aren't they going to Madison for a DCI event and shouldn't DCI help.
It would be nice to know how the corp is planning to proceed. I believe having money issues and no place to stay are two very important issues that need to be addressed. As a parent that is very concerned I know I would like these two issues resolved asap. I do have hopes that they will be resolved but someone please put out minds at ease.
I look forward to your reply.
